National Geographic Maps the Gulf of Mexico's Oil Infrastructure

The Gulf of Mexico is rich in natural resources, but in the past half century, oil development has dominated the Gulf economy. More than 4,000 active offshore oil well platforms now dot the U.S. waters, with thousands of miles of pipelines delivering oil and gas to land.
