Mickael Delalande Makes 3D Sketches with Wire

French artist Mickael Delalande uses wire to make sketches that nearly take flight. Looking like he’s drawn contour lines in the air, his work reflects the objects of everyday life in full-scale – from squeezed tubes of toothpaste, to a floppy pair of Converse All-Stars. The sculptures incorporate playful use of light and shadow, tricking us into seeing double in the shapes they cast on the surfaces around them.

A Tree Covered Apartment Building Protects Residents from Pollution (and Looks Like Paradise)

It’s not just for good looks though.

Let the Light Shine Through: Ramon Todo Creates Stone with Glass Inserted in the Middle

Artist Ramon Todo makes strange sculptures which combine the strikingly different textures of stone and glass. His work, looking much like man-made geodes, uses materials from river rock, to volcanic stone, to graffiti covered pieces of the Berlin wall. His glass additions perfectly match the shape of his found stones, creating a surprising luminous transition where the light is able to shine through.

The New York Times Builds Data Visualization Tool: Cascade

Cascade allows for precise analysis of the structures which underly sharing activity on the web.

This first-of-its-kind tool links browsing behavior on a site to sharing activity to construct a detailed picture of how information propagates through the social media space. While initially applied to New York Times stories and information, the tool and its underlying logic may be applied to any publisher or brand interested in understanding how its messages are shared.

Cascade was developed by R&D using open source tools including Processing and MongoDB.
